CE Delft’s study into the availability and costs of liquefied bio- and synthetic methane, (LBM and LSM).
SEA-LNG commissioned CE Delft to conduct this study in 2019, with the final report published in March 2020. The 100-page report is a comprehensive review of around 150 academic and industry publications. It considers scenarios in 2030 and 2050. The key aims of the study were to:
- Assess global availability of LBM and LSM in relation to energy demand of maritime
shipping worldwide;
- Assess cost price of LBM and LSM and compare it with (cost) price of other existing and
potential marine bunker fuels;
- Make recommendations as to how industry and policy makers could address barriers to the
scaling of LBM and LSM as a marine fuel.
